With the retirement of Donnerhall, Karin Rehbein seemed to have moved to the background of the German Dressage Competition circuit. Leaving a lacuna behind her, the question quickly rose whether the Herbert/Karin Rehbein era was now completely over.
Remarkable progress has been made the past half year by the official trainer of Gestut Gronwohldhof, who is working on her new break through with several top class prospects. Domanio, Cappucino and Flambo are only three names which make part of her Grand Prix quartet. However, the most promising talent she was able to snatch is probably Heslegards Louis.
The seven year old approved Hanoverian stallion was bred at Gestut Gronwohldhof out of the famous dam line of St Pr St Woge (World Cup I x Grande). Purchased by Niels Johnson of Gestut Heslegards in Hilerod, Denmark, at the 1994 Stallion market in Verden, Louis was quickly approved as breeding stallion throwing high notes during his grading on conformation ( 9 ) , trot ( 8 ) , character ( 8 ) and overall impression ( 9 ).
With Karin Rehbein a winning match seemed to be made. The excellently trotting Louis, by Lauries Crusador xx, dominated the Prix St. Georges level at the dressage show in Zierow, claiming all three victories at that level. At the Dressur Gala in Leverkusen, the pair ranked fourth. Watch out for this combination.
