Holland's favorite KWPN breeding stallion, Olympic Ferro, will not be participating in the World Cup Series 2002/2003. Owners Lamers and Van der Goor decided to give Ferro's breeding career priority.
This forces Van Baalen to cancel her entry for the first World Cup qualifier in Dusseldorf. "Ferro is in quarantaine right now," Adriaan van der Goor explained. "When we freeze semen for export out of Europe he has to be in quarantaine for at least four weeks, so we can't show him anyway."
Ferro's owners, however, are leaving the option open for Ferro to compete in the last qualifiers of the World Cup series if they were to find a way of combining his breeding with the sport. "The stallion is fit," van der Goor claimed and the Dutch press still believes in Ferro's qualities for the upcoming show season, despite his fiasco performance at the World Equestrian Games in Jerez.
