Millionaire Wilfried Bechtolsheimer has purchased yet another top dressage horse on the European continent. And this time, it's not just a "super" dressage horse, but an exquisitely unique one.
Don Davidoff, 2000 Oldenburg Licensing Champion and 2002 Young Horse World Champion in the five-year old division, is now property of Mr Bechtolsheimer.
According to Horse Gate, Don Davidoff, a black Don Gregory offspring, was purchased by Bechtolsheimer from owners Paul Schockemoele and Karl Heinz Ehlen. Don Davidoff will become the future mount of daughter Laura Bechtolsheimer, who is currently competing in the Euro Future Cup Young Riders finals at the CDI Frankfurt.
Don Davidoff gained fame in the dressage world by winning the German Young Horse Championships in the 3-year old division under Heinz Jorg Wachter. Ann Kathrin Ehlen, daughter of Karl Heinz Ehlen and former rider of the Trakehner stallion Peron, presented the black stallion at the 2000 Oldenburg Licensing where Paul Schockemoehle bought a share in the stallion. From then on, Don Davidoff was ridden by Dr Ulf Moller who showed him at the World Championships and German Young Horse Championships (winner 5-year old class).
Bechtolsheimer, a native German but living in England for many years now, already bought the chestnut mare Winniza from Mr Ehlen, and the multi-winner Placido (for 500,000 €) from Mr Schockemoele. Laura Bechtolsheimer and Don Davidoff will be trained by Bechtolsheimer stable manager, Markus Gribbe.
