The EFA today announced the National Elite and Talent Squads for the remainder of 2003. The announcement follows a review of both squads by the EFA’s National Dressage Selectors.
Chair of Selectors, Joanne Fowler, said that 2003 would be an important year for Australian dressage. “This year, we will be sending Australian dressage representatives to the Open European Championships at Hickstead and our team result there will determine whether Australia will be eligible to send a team to the 2004 Athens Olympics,” Ms Fowler said.
“The National Selectors have been pleased to note some very positive results from among the Elite Squad combinations, which gives us confidence that we will be able to choose a good team for Hickstead. “Nevertheless, the Selectors want to emphasise that combinations need to demonstrate that they are able to perform above the minimum standard indicated by the Certificate of Capability requirement. “Therefore, we will be looking for Grand Prix performances of at least 64%.”
Ms Fowler said the Selectors were also encouraged by the increased number of combinations on the National Talent Squad.
“There are new riders on the squad and some really promising up and coming young horses and this looks very good for the future of dressage,” she said. A full review of both squads will take place at the end of the year.
