Winning the B-finals at the 2004 World Cup Finals in Dusseldorf, Germany, was Australian Kristy Oatley-Nist aboard her third Grand Prix horse Rosemount Quando Quando.
Nist took a rocky start in the Grand Prix with a 66.458% score, a 13th place and just missing out on the finals. In the Consolation Finals, however, Nist put down a fabulous ride with Quando Quando, scoring 71.625% and winning the class. The pair beat Sven Rothenberger on Barclay II with a 0.500% difference.
Kristy Oatley Nist and Rosemount Quando Quando made their debut at Grand Prix at the beginning of 2004, and only after a few shows they were able to score above the magical 70% mark. The Oldenburg stallion is very green at this level and the World Cup Final was actually not even check marked on Oatley-Nist's calendar.
Fate decided otherwise as Kristy received a wild card to compete in Dusseldorf due to Ricky MacMillan's withdrawal. MacMillan won the Pacific League Finals, but chose not to show her Hanoverian Crisp (by Consul) in Dusseldorf, as the show conflicted with the 2004 Australian Dressage Championships.
With a wild card in her hands, Nist decided to show her new number one Grand Prix horse Don Bolero, but when her tower of power got injured during the trailer ride to Dusseldorf. Nist had to return to her training stable Gronwohldhof and returned to the show with her third Grand Prix horse Quando Quando -- her second being Rosemount Wallstreet -- on board of the truck.
The liver chestnut Quando Quando (by Quattro B x Akzent II) had just started breeding this season and had been out of show shape for three weeks. Relying on the horse's previous experience, his great temperamant and huge heart, Nist decided to take the World Cup Finals' plunge with Quando Quando.
When Quando Quando entered the tiny indoor arena in Dusseldorf, he felt a bit overwhelmed, was tense in several of the FEI movements, causing a 66.458% score as a result. Only needing two days to get their act together, Nist and Quando Quando entered the ring on Sunday for the Consolation freestyle as Grand Prix routiniers. The 71.625% score spoke for itself, as well as their victory in that class.
Many detractors have doubted Quando Quando's capacity for the Grand Prix, but Nist has proven otherwise. Her elegant Oldenburg stallion is up for the job and is a horse to watch for the future.
The Oldenburg Quando Quando was the most expensive foal at the 1995 Vechta Summer Foal Auction and became the second reserve champion at the 1997 Oldenburg Stallion Licensing. In 1998 he won his Stallion Performance Test in Neustadt/Dosse with 140.86 points. In 2000, Quando Quando finished fifth in the Bundeschampionate under Falk Rosenbauer and 10th in 2001. Quando Quando matured into a lovely small tour horse winning the qualifications of the Nurnberg Burgpokal. He already sired two licensed sons, Quarterman and Quantchen Gluck, who was recently imported into the United States, gelded and now building up a dressage career.
