The first edition of the Performance Plus auction of young sport horses in Ermelo, The Netherlands, was a big success. Price highlight of the collection of 73 sold horses was Prince Champ, a 3-year old licensed Hanoverian stallion by Prince Thatch xx x Longchamp x Weltmeyer.
Todd Jepson and Mark Lohmann of Pineland Farm in Maine, USA purchased this bay stallion for 85,000 euro. Pineland Farm also bought the dressage mare Rhapsodie (Royal Dance x Sion).
Second best selling horse of the Performance Plus collection was the dressage youngster Universal Hit W. The liver chestnut stallion by Welt Hit II x Pele was sold through Mark Harbers to Monica Stevenson in the U.S.A for 50,000 euro. Show jumping talent Ocram Royal (Quidam de Revel x Le Tot de Semilly) was sold for 45,000 euro.
Many of the horses in the collection were sold aboard. There were buyers from Hawaii, the U.S.A, Sweden, Czech Republic, Belgium and Germany. A large group of horses will also stay in The Netherlands. Dutch buyers were, for instance, HBC stal and Jan Scheps, Egbert Schep, Stal de Korenbloem, and Jan Greve.
One of the highlights of the collection was Florencia, a yearling filly by Florestan x Weltmeyer, who is the full sister of 2004 World Young Horse Champion Florencio. This black filly was sold for 36,000 euro and will stay in The Netherlands.
Due to its big success, the Performance Plus auction will take place again next year. The organizers will be improving the concept of the auction by focusing more on young stallions, top quality brood mares and talented young dressage horses. The group of horses will also be smaller, so that only star quality youngsters will be selected for auction.
With a total revenue of 1,272,000 euro and an average price of 15,703 euro per horse, the organizers of Performance Plus are very satisfied with the results.
As a teaser the Performance Plus organizers announced that the 2005 auction will include another full sister of Florencio. She will be Florencio's three-years old sister with hopefully a Sandro Hit foal on the ground. Don't miss that opportunity!
