At the 2004 Danish Sport and Breeding Championships - also known as the Danish Young Horse Championships - November 11-14, 2004, dressage horses Tardi, Schianto and Clearwater claimed the 2004 Danish national dressage titles.
Winning the FEI 4-year old division was Pia Kugelmann Nielsen on Tardi, ahead of the prognosticated winner Andreas Helgstrand on Blue Hors Romanov. Nielsen's Tardi is a Dutch warmblood by Negro. The combination won the first qualifying round ahead of Romanov and dominated the finals scored 7.5 for walk and a 9.0 for trot and canter.
Second place in the 4-year old division went to Andreas Helgstrand aboard Blue Hors Romanov, an Oldenburg licensed stallion by Rohdiamant (full brother to Rubin Royal). Romanov scored 7.3 for walk, 9.3 for trot and 8.0 for canter. In third were Andreas Helgstrand aboard Hørgaard Hustler, a Blue Hors Hertug offspring.
The five year old division was won by Astrid Gemal aboard the Danish warmblood Schianto (by the Trakehner stallion Gribaldi out of Schimonn Enshøj). Schianto already competed at the 2004 World Young Horse Championship Finals, so he had plenty of show experience and was the hopeful for the title.
Schianto scored 9.0 for walk, 8.8 for trot and 8.2 for canter. The owners of Schianto, the familyRosbøg, received many inquiries whether the horse was for sale after the Championships, but they are not willing to sell. "We're in it for the long run, for Schianto, for dressage and for Astrid Gemal," the Rosbøgs said. Gemal is very happy about her black Schiento. "The plan is to take Schianto to the Nordic Championships as a 7 year old, that he'll be a small tour horse as an 8-year old and a Grand Prix as a 9-year old. Of course this will happen only if everything goes well with him," Gemal said.
Placing second in the 5-year old division was Anemette Holm Petersen aboard the Don Schufro offspring Græsmarkens Don Pedro, followed by Holger Engsig Sørensen on - Pacito Vedstedholm (by Solos Lantinus) in third place.
In the six year old division Sanne Henningsen and Clearwater (by Carpaccio) were the strongest combination. With two world championship participations on his list of achievements, Clearwater is a weathered 6-year old who knows the drill. Elegantly presented by Henningsen, Clearwater scored 8,9 for walk, 8,5 for trot and 8,7 for canter. They beat Jette Nevermann on Come Back After 8, a Come Back II offspring. Lise Larsen and Herkules Skovgaard (by Hector) finished in third place.
Remarkable was the large amount of successful Blue Hors Don Schufro offspring at this year's Danish Young Horse Championships. In the five your old division four out of ten horses in the finals were by Don Schufro (Donatella, Don Pedro, Jodie K and Ace of Schubon).
President of the Danish Equestrian Federation, Ulf Helgstrand, was very pleased with the organisation of the 2004 Championships. "It was a very nice show, extremely well organized and professionally managed," Helgstrand said. "Everything was on schedule and the scoring was instanteneously, but there are always things that can be improved, for instance, the award ceremony which should be after each class, so that the young horses can go home on time."
