Broere Stud's chestnut stallion Phoenix was urgently operated on last week following an abdominal infection that caused a severe colic. The KWPN registered Phoenix is by Jazz x Ulft and is licensed for the Anglo European Studbook.
He became the 2004 Dutch Dressage Champion at Third level and the 2005 Dutch Indoor Dressage Champion at Fourth level under Broere Stud's steady rider Kirsten Beckers.
"They found a big infection in his tummy and removed it," Kirsten Beckers explained. "Fortunately the operation went well and he recovered well from the anaesthesia." Beckers will not able to show her top horse for a while, but that is of no importance to her. "I don't really care that I can't show him this summer. I'm glad he's recovering well and I'm counting the days for him to come home."
If all goes well, Broere Phoenix will be back in his stall at Broere's in Ablasserdam, The Netherlands, in two weeks. His recovery will take at least two months.
