British world class performance rider Emma Hindle shows good progress by continuing her success tour achieving top scores at the CDI Wiesbaden and the Munich international Horse Festival in pursuit of a place in the British Dressage Team
for the 2005 European Championships. At the CDI Wiesbaden, Hindle and her Hanoverian stallion Wie Weltmeyer placed second in the Grand Prix with 70.667%. One week earlier at the CDI Munich, she steered her upcoming star Lancet to a third place in the Grand Prix with 69.38%.
Aboard Wie Weltmeyer (by Weltmeyer x Dynamo) Hindle excelled in the Grand Prix in Wiesbaden by riding a very consistent, errorless test. The international panel of judges placed her second, only letting local favourite Ann Kathrin Linsenhoff with Sterntaler Unicef get in front of her with a 0.125% advantage. "It was my aim to ride a clean Grand Prix with no mistakes and I did it," a very satisfied Hindle said. "I'm very pleased because "Wally" is at the right point in training."
With the picturesque pink chateau of Wiesbaden in the backdrop, the CDI Wiesbaden is one of the most beautifully set dressage shows in Europe offering an exclusive late night kur to music class on Whitsunday. The Kur to Music started at dusk on Sunday May 15 and was ridden under huge floodlights. Winner of the class was the Dutch Imke Schellekens with the mare Sunrise. For Hindle, the midnight kur was a whole new experience.
"Wally was totally afraid of the floodlights. I have never ridden him at night. He made one big jump in the corner and then got too motivated and was scared the whole time," Hindle explained. "But I'm glad, Wally is 15 years old and he has shown that he still has so much power."
Though the midnight kur was a startling experience for Wie Weltmeyer, Emma thought it was a great initiative for the sport. "We need to keep people interested and make the sport more attractive for spectators. I like the idea of a 'lunar tour'," she commented.
One week before Wiesbaden, Hindle trailered her second Grand Prix horse Lancet (by Wenzel x Shogun xx) to Munich for the big tour. Their 69.38 % score and a third place in the Grand Prix were a personal best for this new combination that is getting to know each other better at every show. "I was really happy with Lance. I'm learning to ride him better and he helped me where I made mistakes. We are starting to understand each other," she said.
With her 30th birthday coming up on Thursday May 19, Hindle is looking forward to the future. Her trainer Jurgen Koschel is travelling to her yard in Ehrbach, Germany, for an intensive training session, and besides a big birthday party there are two important shows in Bern (SUI) and Barzago (ITA) coming up.
"Munich and Wiesbaden were two great learning weeks for me," Hindle remarked. "Wie Weltmeyer is very different to ride to Lancet, but I have to have the ability to ride and train different types of horses. I need to find my way with each horse and be successful with them. That is the art of it," she concluded.
