British World Class Performance Rider Emma Hindle is upward bound working towards a season’s peak in preparation of her performance at the 2005 European Dressage Championships in Hagen, Germany, July 27-31, 2005.
Her last stop at the CDI Fritzens in Austria before the Europeans confirmed the steady improvement Hindle has made aboard her two Grand Prix horses Lancet and Wie Weltmeyer. With Lancet (Wenzel x Shogun xx) she rode a personal best and on Wie Weltmeyer (Weltmeyer x Dynamo) she confirmed the outstanding form she has been in since April 2005.
Emma and the Hanoverian stallion Lancet finally seem to be connecting with one another and are clearly working on the same wave length. In the Fritzens’ Grand Prix for Special, they placed fifth with a 70.08%, in the Special they pushed up their marks and landed a third place with a wonderful 71.44 %, a personal best score.
“I’m really getting together with him,” Hindle said. “The Grand Prix was good, but the Special was much better. Now I have to prove that we can do it often and not just once. I won’t speculate because trust comes from doing it a few times.”
With her long-time partner Wie Weltmeyer, Hindle has been consistently riding in the high 60s and low 70s in the Grand Prix kur tour at CDI shows throughout Europe. It was no different in Fritzens. In the Grand Prix they achieved a second place with 69.71 % and in the Kur they were third with 72.16 %.
“I misjudged the warm up for the Grand Prix,” Hindle confessed. “Wally has much more condition than I expected and I should have warmed him up longer. He showed so much power in the test, which the judges appreciated, but it was not planned,” she joked.
Emma also brought her small tour horse Diamond Hit, an Oldenburg licensed stallion by Don Schufro, to Fritzens. In the Prix St Georges, the pair received 70.85% (2nd place) from the judges’ panel and 70.30 % (3rd) in the Intermediaire I. “Basil is getting much better and so much more consistent, especially in the collected work and the pirouettes.”
Emma’s second small tour horse Furstenreich, an Oldenburg stallion by Florestan x Matador, made his Prix St Georges debut at the CDI-W Ksiaz in Poland on July 1, 2005. The pair finished second in the Prix St Georges with 66,850 %. “It was our first ever St Georges and he behaved very well. He’s normally a quite hot horse, but in the deep footing he just went really well.”
With only two weeks to go before the 2005 European Championships in Hagen, Hindle will focus on bringing Wie Weltmeyer and Lancet to a peak level with her trainer Jurgen Köschel on the sideline. Emma has not yet made a final decision on which horse she is going to ride at the Europeans and it is a dilemma, as ‘Wally’ is the steadiest, but ‘Lancet’ the most talented horse of the two.
“For the team I need to do the securest performance possible. The judges like Lancet and he gives me such a beautiful feeling as I can ride him in the classical way. Wally is physically more demanding because he is a much bigger horse, but I can ride him even when he is not 100% on form,” Hindle explained.
With Lancet listed as reserve for the British team, Emma can take both horses to Hagen, but she has to choose her horse one-hour before the Championship’s trot up on Wednesday July 27, 2005. “At the end of the day, it is the team that will decide which horse I am going to ride. We’ll decide together what is best for Britain,” Hindle stated.
