Royal Prince, America's number one FEI 6-year old, will not be competing at the 2005 American Young Dressage Horse Championships in Lexington, Kentucky, this upcoming weekend. The Hanoverian stallion by Rohdiamant x Prince Thatch xx
is not fit and has been withdrawn from the competition.
“I know we are making the right choice for Royal Prince,” shares Susanne. “Although he had a nice break after Europe, he didn’t come back into work as fresh and comfortable as I’d have expected. We now need to give Royal Prince some time and space to work through this phase of his development, without adding undue pressures to perform in top form. I am terribly disappointed not to complete our 6-year old year together in competition, but I am far more interested and excited in the long term potential of our career together. Training and developing young horses means always listening to and adapting to their physical needs. In this case, the timing of the Championships was too great an obstacle and we’ve had to let go of the dream of capturing the Championship title for a much larger purpose.”
The 2005 USEF/Markel Young Horse Dressage National Championships, sponsored by Markel Insurance, will take place at MSEDA Dressage at the Park, September 9-11 in Lexington, Kentucky. This event will feature the best five and six-year-old dressage horses in the country competing for national titles and the honor of the perpetual Dr. Edgar Hotz Memorial Trophy. Included in the fields will be the three horses which represented the United States at the FEI World Breeding Championships in Germany earlier this summer. The purpose of the USEF/Markel Young Horse Dressage Program is to prepare talented equine prospects for a future career at the international level and promote outstanding breeding and training of dressage horses in this country. Also included in the weekend’s activities will be the inaugural USEF Young Horse Seminar.
