Yesterday, the German Equestrian Federation released the "Breeding Value" (Zuchtwert) of licensed sport horse stallions for 2005. This 'breeding value' is an indicator for performance inheritability of a sire.
The 2005 Breeding Value Index includes 2,738 dressage stallions. Sires, who scored higher than 151 as breeding value, are ranked at the top.
"The breeding value is a helpful tool for breeders to decide upon the combination between stallion and mare to get the right dressage or jumping potential," said Klaus Miesner, the manager of the breeding division of the German Equestrian Federation. "Of course we can't guarantee a successful combination, but we tried to measure the breeding value as meticulously as possible We were more 'careful' in assessing the breeding value of stallions who only competed themselves and have no offspring showing."
Leading sire for the 2005 Breeding Value is the Oldenburg Grand Prix stallion Don Schufro (by Donnerhall), followed closely by Don Frederico (by Donnerhall).
