The Oldenburg breeding stallion Donnerschwee has passed away at the beginning of March. The 17-year old Oldenburg stallion suffered from a heart condition which caused a colick attack.
His owners, Britta Budeus-Wiegert & Richard Wiegert of Gestut Bornmühle, had to humanely put down the stallion.
"We're very sad because he couldn't enjoy his pension with us for very long," Britta Wiegert said. In 2004, Donnerschwee stood at stud at Gerd Sosath's in Lemwerder and last year he bred at Josef Kathmann's before being retired at his owners' place Gestut Bornmühle in Groß Nemerow, Germany. The Wiegerts purchased Donnerschwee in 2000 after having used him many times as a sire.
The 1988 born Donnerschwee is bred by Dr. J. Hartmann and is by Donnerhall out of Elite Mare Weltwunder (by Freiherr x Adrian). In 1991, he was licensed as a Ij Premium stallion and he finished 13th in his Stallion Performance Test in Adelheidsdorf with a score of 115,10 points. Out of his first crop of foals -- he only bred to 9 mares the first year -- came the licensed stallion D-Day and three State Premium Mares amongst which Weissera, the 1996 Regional Champion. In 1999, the Donnerschwee mare Dona di Mondo was Reserve Champion at the Oldenburg Elite Mare show and she also competed at the European Mare Championships in Brussels. In the United States the mare Donnegal became Horse of the Year as a five-year old under Jaye Cherry.
Donnerschwee produced two licensed sons (D-Day and Don Rubin) and ten State Premium Mares (e.g. Doublete, Fariola, Weissera, Dona die Mondo, Grace Kelly = Donnegal, and Cariana).
