The highlight of the Opening Ceremony of the 2006 World Equestrian Games was a truly amazing quadrille of 4 x 16 stallions owned by the different State Studs in Germany.
Their quadrille was set to music, uniquely composed by the Duth duo Cees Slings and Victor Kerkhof (who also make Anky van Grunsven's kur music).
Another highlight of the opening ceremony was the Pony Quadrille in which Germany's best FEI Dressage Ponies were featured. The palomino pony on the left photo is Deinhard B, the 2005 European Pony Champion, reunited with his 2005 rider Anna von Negri. Deinhard B is owned by Sven Rothenberger but he asked von Negri to ride Deinhard in the quadrille. The palomino on the right is Dulcia, ridden by Lydia Camp. One month ago they became the 2006 European Pony Champions. Behind Dulcia is Karina Isselhorst on Virgil.
Aachen home town favourite Nadine Capellmann is the flag bearer for Germany. The German Dressage team follows her (Schmezer, Schmidt, Kemmer and Werth). The are digging for gold at the WEG!!
They definitely stood out during the parade of nations, the U.S. Team with Debbie McDonald as flag bearer. Besides the Germans, the Americans received the most cheering during the parade.
