Ulla Håkanson's Grand Prix horse Flyinge Tolstoy has passed away. The 25-year old Swedish warmblood stallion (by Urbino x Bordeaux) suffered from a colic attack on Monday 26th March 2007.
The next day he was transported to the Helsingborgs Equine Clinic but by Wednesday complications arose and Tolstoy could not be saved.
"It feels like I lost a friendy after having been together for so long," Ulla told the Swedish magazine Tidningen Ridsport. Ulla was still riding Tolstoy every day and in 2005 he briefly competed in lower level classes under Rebecka Nilsson.
Tolstoy and Ulla Håkanson were steady members of the Swedish Dressage Team in the 1990s. They competed at the 1994 World Championships, the 1993 and 1995 European Championships, the 1994 World Cup Finals, and the 1996 Olympic Games. They became Swedish Dressage Champions in 1994 and 1995.
