International Grand Prix dressage horse, Nemo III died unexpectedly at the Royal Veterinary Collage Potters Bar on November 9th. He was attending for routine scintigraphy and was found dead in his stable.
An autopsy is being carried out on the 12-year old dressage horse.
Nemo and Lisa, who were on the British World Class Potential Squad, had enjoyed great success at all levels since Lisa took on the ride 4 years ago when Nemo was still at Elementary. They had won at International Small Tour and were 3rd in the Small Tour Rankings last year. They had made the move up to Big Tour this year and were placed at Big Tour at both Hartpury CDI and the National Championships as well as completing Saumur CDI.
"Having made the big jump to Grand Prix this year he was starting to show really excellent work and we were daring to believe that he would make a team horse," Lisa said. "It’s a devastating blow – particularly since he wasn’t ill or unsound and had so much more to give”.
Owner Lindsey Roberts, who had originally bought Nemo as an ultra safe amateur ride for herself added, “Jay had the most enormous heart – a charming horse, he always tried 110% and took me to places I’d never dared dream I could go to. It was a fairy tale with a tragic ending”.
David Trott, World Class Performance Manager commented, “We had been so pleased with his progress we had just promoted him to a new level of support we have created in World Class called the International level for Grand Prix horses that are in contention for teams. It’s a great loss."
