One of Britain’s most experienced dressage competitors Richard Davison (pictured) has been appointed the World Class Performance Programme (WCPP) team captain for the senior dressage team.

This position has been created to support WCPP Dressage Manager David Trott, who has had to reduce his commitments to the programme due to personal circumstances. David will continue to manage the Dressage Equine Pathway programme and David and Richard will work together in the run up to and during the 2008 Olympic Games in Hong Kong.

Richard’s role will involve managing the team, including organisation and motivation; he will not be involved in the selection process.

Richard said: “There are some amazing combinations at the top of our sport at the moment. They will be extremely busy over the next few months in the run-up to the Olympics and I will endeavour to help make their journey as easy as possible.”

David said: “I am grateful to Richard for taking on this job and cannot think of anybody better.”

David is currently the senior chief selector and British Dressage International Teams Director and will stand down from these positions in June 2008 when he will have served the maximum term allowed as a director. Former international event rider and dressage judge Nick Burton will take over as senior chief selector and nominations will be invited for the director’s post.
