Lotte Jansen won the 2008 Imperial Riding Cup Finals for FEI Dressage Ponies in Almelo, The Netherlands, on Sunday June 15, 2008. Aboard her liver chestnut stallion Oosteind's Rocco (by Anjershof Rocky), Jansen scored a staggering 74,58% in the kur to music and won the finals.
The Imperial Riding Cup is a special show circuit in The Netherlands for FEI Dressage Ponies. Pony riders can gain qualification points in six qualifiers for the finals. The Imperial riding cup show circuit is also important to be noticed by the pony chef d'equipe for international CDI-P selection. Twelve riders qualified for the finals and two riders received a wild card through mediation of Dutch chef d'equipe Christa Laarakkers. Wild card recipients were Rachell Fokker with Power and Paint and Antoinette te Riele with Golden Girl, both students of Grand Prix rider Coby van Baalen, who is sponsored by Imperial Riding. They competed in the Cup finals' classes but their score did not count for the championship.
Jansen scored 68.51% in the team test and placed third but her high score in the kur to music (74.58%) pulled her overall score up to move into the winner's position. Lotte Jansen and Oosteind's Rocco have made big come back this year after illness of the rider (mononucleosis) and injury of the pony. At the CDI-P Le Touquet a few weeks ago, Jansen was the high point champion and she continued to show this level of performance at the Imperial Riding Cup Finals. The points she earned in the qualification rounds added up with the points she earned in the finals made her the grand winner of the 2008 Imperial Riding Cup.
"Since her good performance in the French Le Touquet, Lotte has only been going upwards," Laarakkers said. "From this viewpoint, the results in Almelo are not even a surprise.
Finishing second in the finals was Antoinette Te Riele on Danny Boy B (by Flying Dream). She won the team test with 70.61% and placed second in the kur with 70.92. Her overall mark was 0.78% lower than Jansen's. Anne Meulendijks and the Swedish bred Boticelli (by Briljant) landed a third place in the finals with an overall average score of 69.10% and finished fourth in the end ranking with 76 points.
Danielle Houtvast and the lovely black Domino finished fourth in the finals but her qualification points and her finals points added up made her the 2008 Imperial Riding Cup Reserve Champion, while Te Riele and Danny Boy B finished in an overall third place pointwise.
The winner in the provisional ranking and Dutch Indoor Pony Champion, Maria van den Dungen and Pan Tau B (by Power Boy), were unable to live up to the expectations. The bad weather of rain and hail during the team test caused Van den Dungen to lose her concentration and make several mistakes. She scored 64.30% and did not make it into the kur finals. She finished fifth overall in the 2008 Imperial Riding Cup Ranking with 76 points.
