The CHIO Rotterdam Cup Finals for Dutch junior and young riders are highly important as they are the final selection trial for them before the official nomination of the Dutch teams that will compete at the 2008 European Junior & Young Riders Championships in Azeitao, Portugal, mid July. Dutch Chef d'Equipe Tineke Bartels is on the scene to watch the performances of the long listed team riders. She will pick the definite team after the show. Once in a while, you get these small tour horses which consistently score monster scores at national and international events because they are bursting with talent and are beaming with Grand Prix potential. In Germany, Nadine Capellmann's Elvis VA was one of those horses who achieved 80% in the Prix St Georges. In The Netherlands, Totilas (by Gribaldi) is of the same calibre. Under Edward Gal, the black Dutch warmblood won the Prix St Georges and Intermediaire I Kur to Music. Dutch prima donna Anky van Grunsven finished last with Nelson (by Weltmeyer) because she unfortunately made one pirouette and a half, which is not allowed at this level. The judges pulled her score down to 65%. On Friday June 20, 2008, it was also announced that consultancy agency BMC will continue to sponsor Dutch Grand Prix riders Coby and Marlies van Baalen until 2012.

Anky van Grunsven won the final Dutch Olympic Selection trial at the 2008 CDIO Rotterdam, The Netherlands, on Thursday June 19, 2008. Aboard her Hanoverian gelding Salinero (by Salieri x Lungau) she scored 75% and won the Grand Prix, the test which counted as Dutch Olympic qualification class. (Read Full report)
Two horses did not pass the vet check prior to the CDIO Grand Prix. Carl Hester's mount Lecantos, an Oldenburg gelding (by Levantos x Night and Day) owned by Irish Sasha Stewart, was uneven. The horse has been in Holland with Hester's trainer Anne van Olst for a while and was totally sound until he appeared at the show. Carl was very surprised himself that Lecantos did not pass. With this injury, Hester's hopes to make the British Olympic team have faded completely. First Dolendo got injured a few weeks ago and now his second horse became unlevel. What a pity. The second horse that did not make the job was Cava Iles of the Spanish Victor Alvarez. The Spaniard could not understand the verdict of the judges who apparently pointed at two different legs that were supposedly lame. Because only three Spanish riders were in Rotterdam, Spain was not represented in the nation's cup. Beatriz Ferrer Salat and Juan Manuel Munoz Diaz had to enter the grand prix as individual competitors.
