Adriaan van de Goor, acclaimed KWPN breeder and part-owner of the legendary Dutch warmblood dressage stallion Ferro, has passed away in the night of 9 to 10 August, 2008, after a long illness from cancer. He was 62 years old.
Three weeks ago, Van de Goor was honoured at the mare keuring in Veghel for his achievements as a breeder and horse owner. He has been involved in three horses competing at the 2008 Olympic Games. Together with his wife and daughter, Van de Goor had planned on going to Hong Kong on August 10, 2008, but unfortunately died the day before his departure.
Together with Jan Lamers, van de Goor was part owner of Ferro. Three of his offspring are competing at the Olympics: His own bred American team horse Harmony's Mythilus (by Ferro) and Spanish team horse Prestige (by Ferro). Furthermore, his own bed Realist (by Ferro) is jumping for Colombia under Carlos Lopez.
Ferro himself competed at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia, under Dutch Coby van Baalen. Adriaan was also owner of the KWPN stallions Metall, Rhodium and Wamberto (which he sold to Harmony Sport Horses).
The funeral is on August 14, 2008, at 10h30 at the St. Sebastianuskerk at the Alard v. Herpenplein 7 in Herpen, The Netherlands. The wake is on Wednesday August 13 at 19h00 at the same church.
