Antoinette te Riele has won the fourth leg of the 2009 Imperial Riding Cup for Dutch FEI Dressage ponies at the qualifier in Harmelen, March 7, 2009.

Aboard Danny Boy B, Te Riele reigned supreme and finished at the top in a field of 38 competitors. Te Riele already won the first (with Golden Girl) and third (with Danny Boy B) leg of the competition.

Assisted by trainer Coby van Baalen and supervised by O-judge Jan Peeters, Te Riele rode a virtually error-free test astride Danny Boy B (by Flying Dream). In the walk there was a mistake in the pirouette. They scored 72,13%.

"Danny felt super from beginning till the end. The trot and canter felt really great. Unfortunately we had a mistake in walk," Te Riele commented.

Brand new Dutch Indoor Pony Champion Dana van Lierop finished second. Aboard her bay gelding Lord Champion (by Le Champion), Van Lierop scored 70,28%. Te Riele followed in third place with her young German Reitpony mare Golden Girl (by FS Don't Worry). The mare lacks some show routine after a long show break and was as hot as a pistol. She was quite tense which disturbed the image of harmony. They got 67,22% from the judges. Van Lierop and her young pony Wengelo's Ricardo (by Coelenhage's Purioso) slotted in fourth with 65,93%. Though entered to compete, team rider Maria van den Dungen was absent from this event.

What was striking about this fourth Imperial Riding Cup (and its previous qualifier) is that no measurements take place before the show star. Several ponies which are clearly above 149 cm are allowed to compete. This is raising the hopes of children which can now gain show experience and score well, but which will not be allowed to compete internationally at shows, where measurements do take place! Has the Dutch Equestrian Federation became lackadaisical about this important FEI rule, which promotes fair play in the pony sport!?

Two more qualifiers are schedulesd: Hulten on 4 April 2009 and Aerdenhout on 14 June 2009. The finals are in Almelo on 28 June 2009.
