Anky van Grunsven's second Grand Prix horse Painted Black has been injured and is out of the running for at least two months. The black licensed KWPN stallion (by Gribaldi x Ferro) injured himself at the hip during his daily breeding duty.
While walking to the phantom, Painted crashed hard against a door. Due to this injury, Painted Black will not be available as sire and has been pulled out of the sport. It is expected that he will be back in training within one or two months.
"I'm so bummed, but fortunately everything will be totally fine again," Van Grunsven said. "Painted was supposed to compete at several important shows in June, but that won't happen. I'm giving Painted all the time to recover well."
Painted Black is a 12-year old KWPN branded stallion bred by the Van de Valk-van Anholt family and owned by Anky Van Grunsven, Jan Kelders, and Joop van Uytert. He finished third at the 2009 World Cup Finals in Las Vegas. Anky van Grunsven is expected to compete her number one horse Salinero at the 2009 European Championships in Windsor, UK, in August 2009.
