The Italian Vittoria Zaniboni and the Austrian Franziska Fries had an exciting head-to-head race in the Junior Dressage Tests in Lipica in Slovenia. While the Austrian Rider Franziska Fries won both the FEI Individual test as well as the FEI team test with her eleven-year-old gelding Opal she had to be content with the second place position in the freestyle.  There the 16-year-old Italian Vittoria Zaniboni convinced with a sparkling presentation on her picturesque Hanoverian Santorini Hit. The still somewhat impetuous son  of Sandro Hit x Furioso II completed the movements with a dance-like lightness, so that Vittoria won with a razor-thin lead of 0.9 percent. In the two other competitions, she had occupied the second place. Rank three in all three junior tests went to the Swiss girl Sabrina Ackermann with her Westphalia horse Flint Star.

Uta Gräf and her black stallion with the appropriate nameLe Noir had 1000 kilometers to go to the international dressage competition in Lipica. But for the 39-year-old lady from Rheinland-Pfalz in Germany the trip has been worth it. After her victory in the Prix St. Georges on Thursday, she won even the Intermédiaire I with Le Noir on Saturday. All five judges had the dressage rider on the top view. The end with 70,526 percent  she was clearly in front of the Austrian Belinda Weinbauer with Two to Tango (68,474%) and Italy's Maria Milla with Serenate (66,842%).

Rejoiced about her victory was especially the owners of Le Noir, Hans and Christiane Herzog. Over 30 years ago both had learned riding on the Lipizzaners in Lipica and since then they have been returned almost every year for a holiday to the Lipizzaner stud farm. "If we come here we are at home," said Hans Herzog, who has always had the idea to travel with his own horse to a competition in Lipica. "Now we have tried it for the first time, but it works equally as good, if we had not thought of course," rejoiced the Lipica-fan from Germany.

The breeding of his nine-year-old Holsteiner Le Noir is that of a jumping horse (Leandro x Caletto I), but since Uta Gräf rode the horse in dressage, it can hardly be beaten. For 14 months the professional horsewoman rides the approved stallion and has won eleven competitions in class S. "His strength above all is his character," says Uta Gräf. "He can go fast, he has got fantastic basic gaits, and he always remains calm." After the double success in Lipica Uta Gräf wants to return again next year to the horseshow of Lipica.  "Why not? - When Le Noir goes the Grand Prix then, it would be a great thing!”

For Michal Rapcewicz from Poland the international dressage tournament in Lipica (Slovenia) is increasingly a good patch. Last year he won the FEI Freestyle at the world famous Lipizzaner stud farm, and this year he triumphed with his horse Randon in the Grand Prix. With 68,638 percent the 27-year-old rider, who has represented his country at the Olympic Games 2008 in Hongkong, ranked sovereign at the first place. The silver ribbon went to the Austrian Peter Gmoser. With his Oldenburg stallion Cointreau he came to 67,872 percent. The 38-year-old runs his own dressage stable and got his first riding lessons at the tender age of six. "At home we have only talked about three things: horses, horses, horses. I had no other choice than to be a rider," said Gmoser. Now he has got a good chance for being in the Austrian team for the European Championship in England this year. After all, Lipica is a qualification for the EM for the Austrian riders.   With a very harmonious ride, that has only been tarnished through a mistake in the first piaffes, Anna Merveld and Coryolano came to the third place (67,149%). The 46-year-old dressage rider, Ireland's flagship in the dressage sport, had won the “Special” last year in Lipica. Fourth place in the Grand Prix (65,404%) went to the AustrianHannes Mayr with his mare Ellis. Last year she was the best dressage horse of Upper Austria. Mayr was extremely relaxed in this Grand Prix: Only two days earlier, his son Maximilian was born.

Michal Rapcewicz and his number one horse Randon won the FEI World Cup Dressage Freestyle at the international competition in Lipica on Sunday. The 27-year-old rider, who also won the main test in Lipica last year, got 73.10 percent from the judges. His new freestyle, which he presented for the third time after the competitions in Warsaw and Las Vegas, was marvellous because of the light-footed-gaits, the piaffes and passages as well as the choreography. After Michal Rapcewicz had won the Grand Prix on Friday, he became the most successful rider of the whole competition. The second rank in the freestyle went to the Italian Piero Sangiorgi with Flourian (68.25%), third was Jean-Philippe Siat from France with Greystoke (67.70%).
