The organisation of the 2009 CSI-W/CDI-W Mechelen has announced today that the competition will take place as scheduled on 26 December despite heavy snow fall destroying all stabling tents over the weekend.
A snow storm struck Belgium on Saturday night and Sunday 20 December 2009. Almost 30 centimeters of snow covered the roofs of the tents at the show in Mechelen, Belgium, and made the entire tent village collapse. On Sunday morning 8 AM the first tent went down and by 10 AM 80% of all tents had collapsed by the weight. Fortunately nobody got injured.
With no major snow fall predicted for the next few days, the tent building company is currently working with its entire team to have all the tents and stalls set up and ready again for the arrival of the horses on Christmas day. They will also make sure all tents are heated so additional snow will melt and fall off the tent roofs.
