During the Danish warmblood Stallion Licensing on 11-14 March 2010 in Herning the Danish Warmblood society will also be hosting the annual Spring Auction of young stallion prospects and carefully selected riding horses. The collection is very promising and includes more young stallions than at previous years.
There is always excitement related to an auction, and each year at the National Stallion Show in Herning the Spring Auction is a major draw. Will it be the moment to make a good deal? Will previous price records be broken and who purchases the new young stars?
Auction collection of 30 horses
Once again Dansk Varmblod looks forward to presenting an impressive collection of young qualified riding horses and licensed as well as non-licensed three-year-old stallions.
Twice at previous auctions have young stallions reached the magic amount of 134,000 euro, and the most expensive stallion to date is “Skovens Rafael” by Blue Hors Romanov x Blue Hors Don Schufro, which sold for 161,000 euro in 2007. This young stallion has had an outstanding career and was a 5-year-old finalist at the WBFSH World Championships for young dressage horses last year.
“Skovens Rafael” first stepped into the spotlight at the Elite Foal Auction at Vilhelmsborg and three years later he became the auction highlight in Herning. This is also the case for three of the colts in the Spring Auction 2010 as they were already traded at the Elite Foal Auction, and still belong to the best of their year.
The collection of 22 stallion prospects at auction includes a son of the renowned sire Blue Hors Don Schufro and three by his son Blue Hors Don Romantic. Also stable mate Blue Hors Romanov, who sired Andreas Helgstrand’s 5-year-old World Champion Hønnerups Driver, has a stallion prospect at auction. Among the jumping stallions at auction are nothing less than four sons of the successful sire Heartbeat and a son of Dansk Varmblod Stallion of the Year 2009 Cajus.
In addition to the young stallions the auction collection includes eight riding horses of which four compete in the Young Horse Championship in Herning. Among them are the two jumping horses qualified with the highest scores nationwide. They both scored 940 points and are considered to be among the clear favorites in the championship this year.
Purchasing a horse over the phone
The collection of auction horses can be viewed on the Dansk Varmblod websitewww.warmblood.dk, where you can also follow the entire auction by live streaming. This provides the ultimate conditions for bidding on the horses over the telephone.

Presentation of auction horses and evaluation of x-rays
In order to provide the buyers with the best possible conditions of assessing the auction horses, they will be shown on the lunge. It will also be possible to arrange a test ride for horses already working under saddle.
A request to have a horse presented must be made to the auction committee in Herning no later than 11.00 am on the day of the auction. Presentation of stallions on the lunge will take place Friday in Building M between 8.30 am and 12.30 pm.
All auction horses have been categorized in X-ray groups 1 or 2. There will also be an evaluation of the X-rays by the veterinary surgeon Hans Schougaard, which will take place in the Auction Secretariat on Saturday from 10.00 am to 14.00 pm.
The auction takes place 13 March at 16:00 pm in arena B.
