Gina Smith, of Brockville, ON, has been appointed the assistant Chef d’équipe for Canada’s dressage team heading to the 2010 World Equestrian Games (WEG) at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY. The games will run from September 25–October 10, 2010.
Smith was named to the Canadian Equestrian Team in 1984, and was the reserve rider for the 1984 Canadian Olympic Dressage Team in Los Angeles. In 1988, she was a member of the bronze medal winning dressage team aboard Malte at the Olympic Games in Seoul, Korea. At the 1991 Pan-American Games in Cuba, she was a member of the gold medal winning team riding Dutch Treat. Smith is also a level three certified dressage coach with Equine Canada, and is head trainer at Frankland Farms in Brockville, ON.
“I am looking forward to assisting Gwynne Rooke as assistant chef d’équipe at the World Equestrian Games in Kentucky this year,” said Smith. “Canada has a lot of great combinations vying for a place on the team and I hope to help them reach their goals this fall. Gwynne and I will work on keeping everything running smoothly so the riders can concentrate on their horses and themselves.”
In addition to being one of Canada’s top elite riders, Smith is also one of the rider representatives on the Dressage Canada Board, the vice-chair of the Dressage Canada Athletes Committee and holds positions on the Dressage Canada Coaching Committee and the High Performance Criteria Working Group.
