The Belgian WEG Grand Prix horse Donnerfee has been nominated for the 2010 Belgian Horse of the Year Award, which will be handed out to the winner at the 2010 World Cup Dressage and Show Jumping Qualifier in Mechelen
, Belgium, between Christmas and New Year.
The 10-year old Belgian warmblood mare Donnerfee is bred by Dirk and Murielle Hooghe and is by De Niro out of a Rosenkavalier dam.
Under Claudia Fassaert the dark bay mare won the intermediaire I Kur to Music at the 2009 CDI Mechelen and made the transition to Grand Prix in 2010. Within months Donnerfee was one of the best scoring Belgian Grand Prix horses and qualified on the Belgian team to compete at the 2010 World Equestrian Games in Kentucky. Last month, she was the best Belgian horse at the CDI-W Lyon.
Donnerfee's achievements this year earned her a nomination for the Horse of the Year Award. She's getting strong competition from international show jumpers such as Mclain Ward's Sapphire and Jos Lansink's Valentina van 't Heike as well as individual gold medal winning show jumper Vigo d' Arsouilles.
