Two dressage horses, Bartlgut's Harvard and Ellis, have been selected for the election of Austrian Horse of the Year 2010 held by the Austrian equestrian magazine Pferdplus and the Supporters' Work Group of Warmblood Breeding in Austria (AWO).
Based on the performances during the 2010 show season, seven horses have been nominated for the election. They are show jumper Tamino (Austrian Jumping Champion under Matthias Atzmuller), eventer Roseanne (most successful eventing mare in Austria), carriage driving horses Boris (bronze at the World Championships in Pratoni del Vivaro) and Baritello (team bronze at the World Champs), vaulting horse Alonso (eight at the WEG) and dressage horses Bartlgut's Harvard and Ellis.
Bartlgut's Harvard is an Austrian warmblood and counted amongst one of the most promising Grand Prix horses in the country. The 11-year old licensed stallion is bred by Herbert Stanek and is by Hohenstein out of Toscana II (by Coriograf B x Piaster). Under Ulrike Prunthaler he was national champion as a 6-year old. He won bronze at the 2009 Grand Prix Championships in Fritzens.
The second dressage horse in the running is Hannes Mayr's dark bay mare Ellis (by Grundstein II x Benjamin). The rising 17-year old Grand Prix horse was member of the Austrian team at the 2009 European Championships in Windsor, Great Britain. In 2010 she became reserve champion at the Nationals in Fritzens.
