The new British Dressage Stewards Pathway was unveiled at the 2011 National Stewards Training Day held at Moulton College, Northamptonshire, 22 January. The pathway which offers stewards clearer progression through the levels
and a more robust training system received a warm welcome from the training day participants.
Attendees ranged from highly experienced stewards to new recruits and the feedback for both the event and the new pathway was excellent with level 1 steward Michael Cline-Hughes commenting, “The training day was great fun and I have learned a lot, it has inspired me to continue with my stewards training. The Stewards Pathway is fantastic as it gives us a much clearer structure to work with.”
British Dressage Chief Executive Amanda Bond said, “For some time now BD have been keen to raise the importance and skill level of the steward within our sport. Just as the FEI has done it is vital that these officials are recognised for the important role they perform. The pathway has been designed for a steward to gain relevant experience alongside appropriate training as they progress through the levels.”
British FEI stewards Chris Porterfield, Geoff Simpson and Dan Chapman led classroom-based and practical sessions, covering a host of stewarding issues including bitting, tack, rule updates and horse welfare. British Dressage would like to thank all who were involved in making the event a success.
