The official farewell of KWPN keur sire Jazz (by Cocktail) at the 2011 KWPN Stallion Licensing will not take place. The liver chestnut breeding stallion, who is ranked number one on the WBFSH list of best producing dressage sires, is injured
and can not appear in the evening stallion show in 's Hertogenbosch on Friday night 4 February 2011.
Bred by Huub and Tiny van Helvoirt and owned by the Broere family, the 20-year old Jazz was supposed to be ridden for one last time in front of a public audience, but an old injury has flared up and the horse in unlevel.
"Yesterday morning he came out of his stall really badly, even though he was going so well the last few months," Jazz' rider Kirsten Beckers told Horses.nl. "We were treating him and it seemed to work. Jazz was painfree and happy and you could hardly notice anything of a lameness. This morning, however, there was an unexpected set back. Jazz is very sensitive to his left front leg and even walking a small bit is too much for him."
The Broere family decided that its in the best interest of the horse not to travel to Den Bosch for the show. "He's being treated now and we have good hope that he'll be better soon. We realize that we'll disappoint a lot of people but Jazz' welfare is most important," Broere stated.
A live Jazz band will be playing music during the "Jazz Swings" presentation at the evening show. Jazz will be represented by his offspring: mares Annerijke and Zhara-Obertje will appear as well as licensed offspring Wynton, Westpoint, Chagal D&R, Cachet L, Charmeur and Tango.
