Lena Charlotte Walterscheidt, Antoinette te Riele and Louisa Luttgen were the winners on the first day of competition at the 2011 CDI Stadl Paura in Austria, where classes ran from 7.30 AM til 10.30 PM at night. A huge field of competitors gathered at this final indoor competition of the season even though outdoor temperatures are already summerlike.
German 2010 european silver medal winning Lena Charlotte Walterscheidt brought along her newest acquisition to Stadl Paura, the 10-year old Baden Wurttemberger stallion Lord Champion (by Le Champion), and immediately booked her first international victory. Scoring 72,36% Walterscheidt topped a field of 32 competitors. Team mate Sophie Kampmann and the former Dutch team pony Den Ostriks Dailan (by Leuns Veld's Lord) finished second with 70,56%, while Danish Caroline Bording Smidt followed in third place aboard PSW Desperado.
Junior rider Antoinette te Riele made a striking international debut as she moved from ponies to juniors this year. Even though her grandfather sadly and unexpectedly passed away on Monday 18 April 2011, Te Riele remained focused and steered her 11-year old Hanoverian mare Fleurie (by Florestan x Akzent II) to a winning score of 72,43%. "I rode for grandpa," Te Riele told the Dutch equestrian Magazine De Hoefslag after her victory. Germany's Katalin Garrn and her own bred 9-year old Hanoverian mare Debbie (by Dacaprio x Argument/T) ranked second with 71.98% while colleague Vivien Niemann and Swedish Marina Mattsson tied for third placce on a score of 69.10%.
Louisa Luttgen finally seemed to have found her stride in the young riders division as the former European Pony Champion claimed her first international victory of the season aboard the Verden elite auction horse Habitus (by Hohenstein x Weltmeyer), which she and her sister Anna Katharina Luttgen trained from novice level to FEI. The Cologne based Luttgen, who turned 20 last Saturday, scored 71.32 points and ranked well ahead of second placed Annabel Franzen on the 12-year old Holsteiner Cristobal (by Coriander x Caribo) with 69.04%. Holland's most successful young rider, Angela Krooswijk, slotted in third with the beautiful bay Oldenburger Revino (by Rohdiamant) on 68.73%.
