The Dutch warmblood stallion Darkboy (by Vivaldi x Havidoff x Ferro) will no longer be available for the 2011 breeding season because the black stallion sustained a thrombosis after an intravenous injection by a veterinarian.
The stallion does not have a fully clogged artery but he needs to be treated intensively for the thrombosis and will temporarily not stand at stud. The German based Darkboy has returned back to his home in The Netherlands, where he undergoes blood-thinning therapy.
Darkboy was licensed for the Westfalian society in November 2010 and accepted by the KWPN society at the 2011 KWPN Stallion Licensing in February 2011. However, he did not participate in the mandatory KWPN Stallion Performance Test. Instead the black beauty, who is owned by Ad Valk, moved to Germany to stand at stud at the Lodbergen Stallion Station.
"We regret that besides Rohdiamant another highly demanded stallion will no longer be available for the 2011 breeding season at our station," said a Lodbergen representative. "We ask for your understanding in this matter."
Editor's note: Darkboy was later renamed Desperado and is known under this name as a KWPN breeding stallion.
