The third day of the 2011 Trakehner Stallion Market was very exciting with the approval of 17 two-and-a-half year old Trakehner stallions, the selection of the champion mare for 2011 and the auction of the riding horses, mares and foals.
Tears of joy, elation and the first congratulations – the day was full of highly emotional moments for many of the presenters in Neumünster’s Holstenhalle and much of the same is to be expected on Sunday. Better for those who have good nerves….
17 candidates from the lot of 61 stallions received the approval title, a total of seven received premium status, including the Imperio son Hancock, Schwarzgold and a son from Grand Passion, Gribaldi, Hirtentanz, Hofrat and Singolo respectively. The proclamation of the winning stallion of this year’s Stallion Market will be made on Sunday at 10 am. At the moment there is no absolute favourite for the winning stallion title because there are a few candidates who come into question as best of the best from the approvals 2011. This will lead to a restless evening for many of the breeders and owners….
The champion mare of the 49th Trakehner Stallion Market is Kaija, a daughter of the elite stallion King Arthur – by the way the Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg state dressage champion – and she charmed the crowds in the stands. The dark bay state premium mare out of Kosima XIX, by Ivernel, is bred and owned by Nicola Offen from Hamburg. “A very modern mare, long-legged and sporty”, is how breed manager Lars Gehrmann brought the decision of the three judges, Florian Solle (Dillenburg Stud), Albrecht Warnecke (Trakehner Mare Registration Commission) and Anders Dahl (Danish Trakehner Evaluation Committee), to the point.
A total of 13 Trakehner mares entered the running in the final for the title Trakehner Champion Mare 2011 at Neumünster’s Holstenhalle. The reserve champion and simultaneously the best half-blooded mare was Isola Negra, a dark bay state premium mare by the English thoroughbred Lauries Crusador and out of Alexis, by Caprimond. Her breeder is Karl-Heinz Schulenburg and her owner is Rainer Kasch. Just a few hours later Kasch was celebrating again as the stallion he presented, Iceman (by Ovaro-Schiffon), was one of the 17 stallions which were approved.
Special feature: Isola Negra and the also very valued Iceage are very close relatives. Both are daughters from Lauries Crusador xx and their mothers, Iluna and Ilexis, are full sisters. Their breeder Karl-Heinz Schulenburg has every reason to be proud of both of the Lauries Crusador daughters. The second reserve champion was the state premium mare It’s Pretty WH, by Insterburg-Sir Chamberlain, who was bred and is owned by Jutta Wassermann. The best jumping mare was the chestnut Painter’s Wolga, by Waitaki-Painter’s Row. The breeder and owner is Graciela Bruch from St. Wendel.
No „Deals“ – Nachtmusik, Hofmarschall and Kaija
There were no “over the top” results by the mare, riding horse and foal auction – but there were definitely no cheap deals. A total of 14 mares were auctioned off in Neumünster with the champion mare Kaija topping the list at 30,000 Euros. The dark bay mare will remain in Hamburg. A Danish buyer secured the grey Trakehner mare Nachtfee, by Interconti-Herzruf, for 25,000 Euros. The average price was 15,642 Euros.
A total of 126,000 Euros was reached for the 20 foals that were auctioned off at the Trakehner Stallion Market with buyers having to spend an average of 6,631 Euros or more. For example, a Swiss guest had to pay 15,000 Euros for Hofmarschall. The Hofrat-Artistic son, born in April, was the most expensive foal of the auction.
The Trakehner riding horse auction closed with a total of 343,500 euro. The top price of the 15 horses was 50,000 euro for the 5 year old Tambour daughter Nachtmusik who will find her new home in Hamburg. The five year old Banderas, by Hibiskus x Kostolany, changed owners for 45,000 euro.
There will be great suspense till Sunday’s stallion auction by the 49th Trakehner Stallion Market.
