Dutch-Italian junior rider Chiara Prijs Vitale and Dutch young rider Stephanie Kooijman took the trophies at the 2011-2012 CHIO Cup qualifier for Dutch junior and young riders at the Harmelen Equestrian Centre in Harmelen, The Netherlands, on Sunday 15 January 2012. One week after the CDI-JYR Drachten, Prijs and Kooijman maintained their great form and rode the winning scores.
In the junior riders division, which was judged by Wolters-van den Berg, van der Harst, and van Twist, Chiara Prijs Vitale aced the class aboard Michele Betti's 15-year old Oldenburg mare Hot Chocolate (by Sandro Hit x Lateiner) with a score of 69.37%. Jeanine Nieuwenhuis finished second with Baldacci (by Havidoff) which still has to turn 6 in the spring. The combination scored 69.01%. Maria van den Dungen and the Westfalian licensed stallion Future (by Florestan x Apart) finished third. The combination will not be able to compete at the finals in the summer if qualified, because the bay stallion has been sold to Austria and is moving to his new home and life as a breeding stallion on 1 April 2012.
"The junior riders group varied in their level of quality but there was a strong top group. Those riders were experienced and didn't lose any points. It was a pleasure to watch," said judge Patricia Wolters-Van den Hartog. "Hot Chocolate has a fine trot with a lot of spring and expression and Chiara rode a nice test. Baldacci is a horse for the future. Jeanine rode a nice, correct test and rode her movements accurately."
In the Young Riders division a tough duel took place between Stephanie Kooijman and Angela Krooswijk. The former won the class aboard her black gelding Winston (by OO Seven) with 69.91% while the latter was on Kooijman's heels with two horses. Aboard Flash (by Fidermark), Krooswijk placed second with 69.78%, while with the Rhinelander stallion Roman Nature she slotted in third with 69.52%.
The young riders category was judged by de Haas, Wolfs-Dielissen, and Wolfs. President of the jury Dirk de Haas was very pleased with the quality of riding. "Winston was one of the better horses of the day. He has large gaits and was fluently ridden forwards. The canter could have been more closed and the flying changes bigger. But if those are good she will be unbeatable," said De Haas. "Angela can ride tests like no other. With Flash she had a nice contact and much impulsion. Roman Nature also did a good test but lacked some impulsion."
The next CHIO Cup competition will take place in Benningbroek, The Netherlands, on 26 February 2012.
