Seventeen colts stood out at the 2012 Austrian Warmblood Stallion Licensing which took place in icy cold temperatures at the equestrian centre in Stadl Paura, Austria, on 11- 12 February 2012. Nine young colts received a recommendation for the Stallion Performance Test and eight stallions were licensed.
The 2012 Austrian Stallion Licensing started with the presentation of 34 young colts of which 9 were accepted for the Stallion Performance Testing.
In the afternoon of Saturday 11 February, 13 stallions appeared on the scene for the licensing. The majority of the stallions were show jumping bred and only three were dressage stallions. Eight of that group were approved to breed for the Austrian warmblood society. The stallions in this category included some already licensed for other studbooks and well as a few 4 and 5-year old stallions which had already completed the Performance Test.
Only two stallions qualified for the championship ring and the Austrian owned Hanoverian stallion Del Magico (by Dimaggio x Feinbrand x Akzent II) was named Licensing Champion. The grey stallion is owned by Agyd Pengg and excelled with his harmonious presentation.
"He did not loose any points, no matter in what category," said a representative of the Austrian warmblood society. "He had the best conformation, type and basic gaits. He also had a good way of jumping in freedom."
The reserve champion was the 2011 Performance Test winner Quidamo P (by Quanta Real x Ferragamo). He is bred in Germany by Erich Metzl. The best Austrian bred stallion was the 6-year old Staphael (by Stakkato Gold x Raphael) which won the Austrian young horse show jumping championships in 2011.
