Despite wind and rain at Werribee Park there were plenty of highlights to come out of the day on the second day of competition at the 2012 Dressage and Jumping with the Stars CDI-W. Maree Tomkinson won the Grand Prix, while young rider McKimmie led in the young riders division.
The highly anticipated Grand Prix CDI-W started at noon. The winner of the class, Maree Tomkinson riding the Diamond Hit mare Diamantina, scored highest from four out of the five judges. Caroline Wagner came second with the Jazz gelding Tango V. Crowd favourite Heath Ryan was last to go in the Grand Prix finishing up in third position on Regardez Moi (by Rubinstein).
On completion of the Grand Prix CDI-W it was time for the young riders to show the crowd what they had. The field was only small with five starters, but no less competitive. Shannon McKimmie was first to ride, her opening score of 64.255% on Ambassi was enough to hold first position through the whole competition. Faye Hinchcliffe riding Northern Leandro came in second place, with Fern Wright on Kamber Pryderi a close third place.
The hands down winner of the 5-year old second round was WS Donnermann ridden by Anthony Bartlett. All the judges were super excited by the horse's canter. The horse was modern, elegant, it had three good paces, great rhythm and covered ground.
Pony guest rider Cassie Montgomery rode the top 3 in the 4-year old and 5-year old pony classes. The 4-YO class saw Rosewater Driving Miss Daisy crowned the Champion. The champion is a chestnut German Riding Pony by FS Don’t Worry. The Welsh pony cross bred Yarramee Smarty Pants (by Bookra the Coalman) placed second and Diamond Park Rose, an Australian bred by Byalee Briar, caught the judges eye for third place.
The winner of the 5-year old Pony Championship was all the way down from Queensland, Double S Dark Sun, a Warmblood x Morgan stallion by Alessandro.
