Dundee M and Chicago MH became the winners of the 2012 Horsefood Dressage Talent competition for 4 and 5-year olds at equestrian centre De Kraan in Berkel-Enschot, The Netherlands on 31 March - 1 April 2012. This regionally organized young horse show is open to competitors from The Netherlands and Belgium and was judged by guest judges Edward Gal and Hans Peter Minderhoud.
The entire judging panel was composed by Gal, Minderhoud, national judge Jan Wolfs and guest judge rider Eric van den Wildenberg. The latter rode the three best horses of each division in the finals. More than 100 horses were entered to compete at this two-day event.
The 4-year old division was contested on Sunday 1 April and won by Oss based Sharon Loeffen on the black stallion Dundee M (by Lord Leatherdale x Sandro Hit). The combination scored a winning 80.5 points in the first round and received 100 points (or a 10) from guest judge rider Van den Berg to total 180.5 points and go home with the title. Dundee M is bred and owned by the Van Mook brothers.
The runner up was José van Haaen aboard the Dutch warmblood mare Darenta (by Santano x Hemmingway). The pair stayed closely on the heels of the winners in the first round with 79.5 points but lost some ground in the finals in which Darenta received a 85 point score. A total of 164.5 points made them reserve champions. Van Haaren placed three horses in the top 20 of the 4-year old division. "I'm very happy with my horses," van Haaren commented after the competition. "It was a very good weekend."
Leonie Bos and Dolman (by Lord Leatherdale x Partout) stayed on van Haaren's heels throughout the competition with 78 points in round one and an equal guest judge rider score of 85 in the finals. Her total of 163 points was good for bronze.
Chicago MH Bests the Field in the 5-year old division
Jonna Schelstraete and Chicago MH (by Vivaldi x Montecristo) collected the highest amount of total of points after a winning 81.5 in round one and 95 points from the guest judge rider. A celebratory Schelstraete commented that she is "proud of my nice chestnut" after winning the competition.
With 171.5 points Chicago MH referred Sofie van Vugt and Cidamorka to a second place. The long-legged bay Jazz x Zuidhorn mare has three good basic gaits and scored 78.5 in round one and got 90 points from Van den Wildenberg. With 168.5 points Cidamorka became reserve champion.
Maartje Klop and her tall black Dutch bred Corento (by Sorento x Gabor) finished in third place with 77.5 and 80 points. It was Klop's second top three placing in one weekend time. "On Friday in Berlicum we made it to the finals in which Corento tied on second place. At the Horsefood competition Corento became third out of 64 horses," said a proud Maartje.
