Van Lierop and Krooswijk in Charge at Fifth 2012 CHIO Cup Qualifier in Uden

Junior Dana van Lierop and young rider Angela Krooswijk were in charge of the competition at the fifth 2011-2012 CHIO Cup qualifier for Dutch youth riders held at Stable Olympic in Uden, The Netherlands on Sunday 15 April 2012. The competition in Uden was the first outdoor show of the 2012 show season, which presented its challenges for some combinations.

Van Lierop and her bay Dutch warmblood gemding DJ Tiesto (by Rohdiamant x Nocturn x My Lunaria xx) won the junior team championship test with a strong score of 73.83%. Upon returning from the CDI Stadl Paura during Easter weekend, van Lierop gave her horse, which was originally named Turquois, some days off by hacking him in the woods.

"Afterwards he looked at me with big eyes and asked me 'are we going to do something again'," Van Lierop explained. "Tiesto is always such a good boy because he's focused on me and I can ride a nice test. My next goal is to ride like this - consistent and safe - at the CDI-PJYR Roosendaal. Then I want to surprize at the upcoming European Championships, just like I did last year with my pony Diva."

Three juniors in total were able to score above 70%. Suzanne van de Ven and the 17-year old Rhinelander mare Donna Gracia (by Donnerschlag x Good Luck x Raimondo) were second with 71.22% followed by Dutch-Italian Chiara Prijs Vitale on Michele Betti's Oldenburg mare Hot Chocolate (by Sandro Hit x Landstreicher) with 70.59%.

Judge Frits Nijskens thought the top group was technically more strong than the rest of the pack. "The tenth placed rider still got 68% from me," said Nijskens. "Winner Van Lierop is a pleasure to watch. There is also a nice group of juniors with high quality horses."

Angela Krooswijk on Flash At Young Riders level, Angela Krooswijk and her 12-year old Westfalian gelding Flash (by Fidermark x Raritat) were on form and won the class with 71.23%. The pair outranked Stephanie Kooijman on the huge Dutch warmblood Winston (by OO Seven), who finished second with 70.04%. Stephanie had a super trot tour but made a mistake in the tempi changes when she got confused by the bell in the ring next to hers. Michelle van Lanen, who also trains with Dutch chef d'equipe Tineke Bartels like Kooijman, slotted in third on her tall liver chestnut gelding Urchin B (by Jazz) with 69.08%.

Krooswijk was very pleased with her win. "He did such an amazing trot extension. I had never felt that before in a test," she said. "I'm very happy, it's so cool. It's fun to have a horse in top shape who doesn't tire from all the shows."
