The mandatory DNA research on newly licensed stallions of the Danish warmblood studbook caused quite a stir when licensing favourite Sezuan turned out to be by Zack instead of Romanov. The same DNA-research round has now also revealed that Believe Me is not by Belissimo M.
Twelve 3-year old Danish stallions, which were licensed in Herning in March and which successfully completed the 10-day performance test right after, were all DNA tested to confirm their parentage. The DNA results of two stallions have already revealed that they are by different sires than indicated on their pedigree papers.
Arlette Jasper's and Andreas Helgstrand's Sezuan is not by Romanov but by Zack and Steffen Kristensen's chestnut stallion Believe Me turns out to be not by Belissimo M as listed on his passport.
"The mandatory DNA-research on the parentage of the newly licensed stallions have shown that Believe Me is not by Belissimo like indicated," the Danish warmblood society commented. "The laboratory is working intensively in tracing the sire and hopes to have the result in two weeks time. This does not necessarily influence the licensed status of the stallion with the Danish warmblood society as long as the to-be-known sire is approved with the society."
Bred by Stald Evergreen, Believe M (by ?? out of Miss Evergreen xx (by Prince Mab xx x Miami Springs xx) was acquired by Steffen Kristensen at the 2009 Danish Elite Foal Auction, where Steffen spotted him as a stallion prospect. Kristensen was unable to comment on the situation, which he finds frustrating, until the sire of Believe Me is known.
