Junior rider Dana van Lierop and young rider Danielle Houtvast won the final leg of the 2011-2012 CHIO Cup show circuit in Bergen op Zoom on sunny Sunday 27 May 2012. One week after the CDIO-PJYR in Moorsele, Belgium, the Dutch youth riders were back on full form to produce some top scores.
Dana van Lierop and her Dutch warmblood gelding DJ Tiesto (by Rohdiamant) were untouchable in the junior riders' division scoring a winning 73.47%. Stefanie Verkooijen and the grey Dutch warmblood Talent (by Jazz) followed in a distance with 67.07, while junior riders' new comer Jasmien de Koeyer slotted in third aboard Take it Easy (65.99%).
Judge Nico Verwer was very pleased with the winner's test. "The test was a beautiful whole with the right collection moments and extensions. The whole was very rhythmical and the great punctuation is a real quality of the rider." Second placed Verkooijen commented normally has her hands full with the temperamental Talent, but the pieces came together at this show. "He can become hot very quickly and then I can't ride him, but this time with the hot temperatures it worked. I'm very happy." Judge Verwer had a recommendation for riders scoring below 60%. "I would applaud a trainer who would stress that competitions are demotivating when it doesn't go well. Practice at home and know your own strengths."
Danielle Houtvast and her gorgeous black KWPN gelding Rambo (by Gribaldi) scored 73.51% to win the Young Riders division. Angela Krooswijk and the Westfalian bred Flash (by Fidermark) were second with 70.31, while Krooswijk also finished third on the Rhinelander stallion Roman Nature (by Rohdiamant) with 68.95%.
Judges Jacques van der Harst and Peter Bonhof praised the winning horse for being "a true happy athlete. The rider gives Rambo really the chance to do it well and it all looks so easy." Van der Harst appreciated Krooswijk's meticulous riding. "I could give nines for the shoulder-in."
