Canadian dressage team veteran Belinda Trussell has announced that she and her 12-year old international mount, Anton, will not be competing for a place on the Canadian team at the upcoming 2012 Olympic Games in London.
"Anton has been recovering from an injury and, unfortunately, he will not be ready in time to compete in the qualifying shows to make the Canadian Team for the London Olympics. I am disappointed not to be a contender this year, but I have to give Anton the time he needs to recover. Anton is a very special horse and an incredible partner and I look forward to being in the international ring with him once again. I would like to wish the Canadian Team the best of luck in London. I am cheering for you!!"
Belinda Trussell and Anton represented Canada at the 2010 World Championships where they scored a personal best and helped the Canadian team to its best ever World Championships placing. Anton was the top scoring Canadian horse in 2011 based on his results in Europe, and he and Belinda had been considered top contenders for a place on this year's Olympic team.
Trussell has represented Canada at the 2002 World Championships, the 2004 World Cup and the 2004 Olympic Games aboard her previous Grand Prix horse, Royan II.
