German team trainer Jonny Hilberath has indicated that he no longer wants to continue his function as team trainer after the 2012 Olympic Games. Hilberath was initially co-trainer but after the sudden death of Holger Schmezer, he took on the head job.
Dennis Peiler, the sports director of the German Equestrian Federation, confirmed this news to the German press agency DPA.
"He will no longer be available as chief trainer," said Peiler. "This is a great pity as we loved to have continued working with him because he did a great job."
The reason for Hilberath's early resignation is that the function is too time consuming. With a training facility at home and the desire to climb back into the saddle as main arguments, Hiberath will step down soon.
"I have my own business at home. The cost is too great. I'm not a man who does things only 50%," Jonny commented.
For weeks it has been rumoured that Monica Theodorescu might take over the job. "Yes she plays a part in our considerations," Peiler confirmed
