The 4-year old Don Juan de Hus, the 5-year old Danciero de Hus and the 6-year old Dona Primera became the grand winners at the 2012 French Young Horse championships held at the French National Championships at the National Equestrian Centre in Saumur, France, on 21 - 23 September 2012.
The French Young Horse Championships are divided into two rounds. The Preliminary test serves as qualifier for the final. The top 12 move on to the finals as well as the three top placers in the consolation finals. The Finals test is essential for the actual Championship and it includes a "Presentation score" based on the gaits shown in the preliminary test combined with a conformation score of the horse shown in hand as well as the score of the Finals' test. This presentation mark has a coëfficient which decreases with the age (0.4 for 4-year olds, 0.3 for 5-year olds and 0.2 for 6-year olds), whereas the Finals' test score has a coefficient of 2.
The 4-year old division was dominated by Jessica Michel on the highly praised KWPN stallion Don Juan de Hus (by Jazz x Krack C), who received sensational scores from the panel of judges at the vent. The chestnut stallion, with its brilliant uphill canter, scored 91.83 for presentation and 94.00 in the Finals to finish all the way on top as a league of his own. Belgian Amandine Prevost saddles Virginie Michel's SBS registered Chaina de Deminche (by Stedinger x Donnerhall) and finished second with 80.00 and 86.20 points. Jean Paul Largy and the Hanoverian Ultra Time (by Londontime x Rotspon) were good for bronze with solid scores of 82.33 and 84.40
In the 5-year old division Guillaume Recoing pulled a double whammy finishing first aboard the Hanoverian stallion Danciero de Hus (by Dancier x Royal Diamond) on a score average of 82.717 and second aboard the Oldenburg bred Symphonie de Hus (by Samba Hit II x Argentinus) on a score average of 81.283. Cadre Noir rider Fabien Godelle and the Hanoverian Tempo (by Brentano II x Donnerhall) slotted in third overall. The pair only ranked sixth for presentation (78.83) but climbed their way up to a second place in the Finals test (81.20) to end up with bronze on an average of 80.891.
Brazilian rider Rodolpho Riskalla made a quantum leap in the ranking aboard Marina Caplain Saint Andre's Oldenburg mare Dona Primera (by Don Primero x Ex Libris). The combination only had the 10th presentation score (76.50) but jumped to the top of the leaderboard in the Finals test with 85.60 to finish first overall on a score total of 84.773. Swedish born Sara Magnusson Lostria and her own Swedish warmblood Zidane (by Silvano x Don Schufro x Freimoor) ended up with silver after scoring the second highest score twice: 84.83 for presentation and 83.80 for the Finals test. Jean Michel Aubry and his own Selle Francais branded Sunny Girl (by Don Frederico x Ex Libris) posted scores of 79.00 and 81.60 to return home with bronze.
