The Dutch Olympic Sports Committee (NOC-NSF) will be providing extra funding to the Dutch Equestrian Federation in the lead-up to the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The Dutch Equestrian Federation (KNHS) is one of the few sport federations in The Netherlands which will be extra subsidized based on their medal achievements at the Olympics. The KNHS had to file a budget report for 2013-2016 and got almost the entire sum they requested.
In 2013 Dutch equestrian sport will receive 1,226,200 euro for its Olympic disciplines. The majority of that sum will go to show jumping and dressage. If the performances stay on par, Dutch show jumping will get 470,000 euro and dressage 455,000 euro. Para dressage gets 106,200 euro.
The NOC-NSF has made a distinction between "Podium" and "Potential" discplines and dressage is considered a Podium discipline. Maurits Hendriks, technical director of the NOC-NSF, commented that "by applying this focus we want to keep programs, which belong to the world top, at that level and we are focusing on expanding that amount. It is very necessary that we fulfil our ambition as a Top 10 country."
