End of the Year Questions

On this glorious 2012 Christmas day, it is time for Eurodressage's most popular "End of the Year Questions" series to return to the website. We have asked the most important dressage figures of 2012 to review their 2012 and share their personal enterprises of the year with us.

Check out the first series of answers we gathered.

Frank Kemperman
The Netherlands
FEI Dressage Committee Chair, Show director CDIO Aachen

I think everybody will agree that the London Olympic Games were the highlight. For me personally the World Cup Final in "s-Hertogenbosch and the CHIO Aachen were also highlights

More harmony, more open minds for new ideas, less political starts or better non-starts for political reasons.

What do you wish for in 2013?

I wish of course healthiness for all humans and horses. And for the dressage world a fantastic sport.

Dana van Lierop

Most important event in your equestrian life in 2012?

Valentina Truppa
Italy
Olympic individual finalist for Italy, third at the 2012 World Cup Final

Most important event in your equestrian life in 2012?
My most important event was the Olympic Games, but achieving a third place at the World Cup Final was a real goal, as well as finishing 6th on the World Ranking List.

Most important happening, evolution or trend in the world in 2012?
The economic problems in the world, especially for us in Italy. I believe we could slowly go out from this situation. With many clever and  powerful young people we can.

Best and worst tv and radio show

Best book, play, concert, movie and CD

Best book: I don't read a lot
Best movie:  Skyfall, Madagascar 3
Best CD:Adele's 21, Candy (by Robbie Williams)

What would you like to see changed in the dressage world in 2013?
I would like to have much more possibility for some good young riders in my  country to compete at high level. We have good riders, but no sponsors and no help for these riders. Horses at Grand Prix level have fantasy prices. Here we don't have that money and we are not interested in paying that. Lots of these riders can do like what I did with Eremo, training a horse from age 3 to Grand Prix. With no help it's impossible in Italy. This is a "football" country and nothing else. Maybe now something is starting to change.

What do you wish for in 2013?
Firstly health and happiness for my parents, relatives, boyfriend and friends! And secondly lots of riding success for me!

Leif Tornblad
Denmark
O-judge

Most important event in your equestrian life in 2012?
By far the Olympic Games in London.

Most important happening, evolution or trend in the world in 2012?
If you can talk about a trend then it has to be that criticism has turned a little. It can better become self-critisism. You could also say that the Brits are bringing back a more natural way of riding dressage than it has been the case during the first ten years of this century.

Best and worst tv and radio show
Worst TV: I think there is far too much cooking (food) on TV. I love eating and even making good dinner meals but not watching other people doing it.
Best TV: the transmission of the Olympic Games on BBC was fantastic.

Best book, play, concert, movie and CD
Best book: John Irving "Last night in Twisted River" (John Irving has a
very twisted mind that I like)
Best concert: OL nobel peace price
concert from Oslo
Best movie: Danish film “the A Royal Danish Affair”
(nominated for Oscar and Golden Globe)
Best CD: Carl Nielsen played
by New York Philharmonic Orchestra

What would you like to see changed in the dressage world in 2013?
More structure in the show system. It is too much depending on free market and money. We need a proper system with qualification rules for riders and a system in which judges also are selected according to the level of show (3-4-5*).

What do you wish for in 2013?
Good health for me and my family and good, honest sport.

Kristina Sprehe
Germany
Olympic team silver medalist

The Olympic Games were the biggest to event which I have experienced in my competitive career so far. Also the CHIO Aachen was a very special experience, because it was the last selection trial for London.
