The KWPN licensed stallion Vivaldi has been pulled from competition sport to focus entirely on breeding in 2013. The 11-year old chestnut stallion has moved to Joop van Uytert's stallion station in Heerewaarden, The Netherlands.
Vivaldi is bred by A. Versantvoort and owned by the trio Joop van Uytert, Ad Valk and Ton Kies. Sired by Krack C out of a Jazz x Ulft dam, the 2002 born Vivaldi has been trained by Hans Peter Minderhoud from the start but still has not made the transition to Grand Prix level despite his age. Two weeks ago Minderhoud and Vivaldi reclaimed the VHO Trophy, a show competition at Prix St Georges level in which the winner is decided by the applause from the audience.
"We think this is the best solution to make Vivaldi fully available to the breeders," Joop van Uytert stated in a press release. "Sport and breeding are hard to combine for Vivaldi. Hans Peter respects our opinion and will continue to present Vivaldi at the KWPN Stallion Licensing and stallion shows."
In 2009 Vivaldi was the second most used breeding stallion in The Netherlands with 285 registered breedings. In 2011 Vivaldi only covered 33 mares. The stallion owners have now decided to reduce the stud fee to still a stiff 1,600 euro. The management of the breedings is no longer done by Triple V but by Van Uytert himself.
