In 500 days time, Normandy will be living to the rhythm of the seventh edition of the biggest event in equestrian sports. Caen’s d’Ornano Stadium will be welcoming 20,000 spectators for the opening ceremony on the evening of Saturday, 23 August 2014. This will enable competitors and organisers to enjoy this fun-packed moment to the full and allow them to have the whole of Sunday to get ready for the event.
The equestrian competitions will start, as scheduled and in agreement with the Fédération Equestre Internationale, on Monday 25 August to finish on Sunday 7 September.
What about you? What will you be doing for the Games?
This open-ended invitation is for all those who want to take part in the event. Volunteers, businesses, actors in the equine sector...Everyone is concerned! The time has come for Normans, horse lovers and all those who simply adore Normandy to come forward and be counted. It’s now down to them to make the Alltech FEI World Equestrian GamesTM 2014 in Normandy happen!
Recruitment programme for 3,000 volunteers: it’s ready, steady, go!
On 10 April, with only 500 days to go, the Normandie 2014 Organising Committee is opening its doors to volunteers. Whether they’re from down the road or from the other side of the world, we would like them to join us in this fantastic group project. There’s a place for every single one of them. Our volunteers will come into direct contact with the public, have the benefit of training at an international event and more than anything, enjoy a truly unique experience.
Online recruitment via the event’s website will be available (www.alltechfeiwegnormandy2014.com.) Candidates must be 18 or over and be both motivated and available during the fortnight of competitions. 1,000 volunteers will be trained to help out at the test events in 2013, with a further 1,500 to 2,000 to join their ranks in 2014. Candidates will be subject to a registration process, followed by an in-depth information and training course. May the spirit of the Games be with them!
"The 3,000 volunteers will represent the welcoming face of Normandy and will be the first contact that the public has with the event," said Laurent Beauvais, president of the Normandie 2014 Organising Committee. "They will live by the values of openness and respect, which are the hallmarks of the Norman edition of the event. They will of course have full training to make them just as professional as anyone else on the organising team. The London Olympics proved that any event is only as good as its volunteers. They hold the key to making a successful, welcoming and friendly major international event. Our Normandie 2014 “Games Makers” will be the very essence of the event."
The official mascot: the Normans adopt NORMAN
Forget William, it’s Norman the Conqueror! His parents met in Lexington during the last edition of the World Equestrian Games. The fruit of this modern day love story is our cute little mascot! The charismatic captain of the Normandy team is about to trot out of his stable to mobilise all the event’s fans. Norman’s playful nature means that he’ll be our most enthusiastic fan and perhaps a little difficult to ‘rein in”, but how could anyone resist such a lovable softie!
