The Spanish Equestrian Federation has submitted its definite entries to the FEI and picked the team that will represent Spain at the 2013 European Dressage Championships in Herning, Denmark, on 20 - 25 August 2013.
The Spanish dressage committee selected two members of their 2012 Olympic team, one member that was on the team at the 2010 World Equestrian Games and one team new comer. They have not yet announced a team reserve.
Two quite well known riders are not on the team: Spanish Olympian Morgan Barbançon Mestre, who was unable to show fitness with Painted Black as she had to withdraw from the CDI Falsterbo last weekend due to Painted Black sustaining a hoof abcess after pulling a shoe, and 2013 CDIO Aachen kur finalist Severo Jurado Lopez on Numberto (by Negro).
"Unfortunatly we have had at the last moment some issues with pre-selected horses and they couldn't come on our team," Spanish Dressage Director Luis Lucio told Eurodressage. "Numberto was one of those ones."
Instead the Spanish federation selected Lauro Aguilo, who only competed his grey PRE cross bred stallion Hierro (by Ferro) internationally this season at home shows in Toledo and Madrid.
The Spanish team includes:
- Jose Daniel Martin Dockx - Grandioso
- Juan Manuel Munoz Diaz - Fuego
- Jose Antonio Garcia Mena - Norte
- Lauro Aguilo - Hierro
