Danish Olympic dressage rider Lars Petersen and his longtime partner, American Grand Prix rider Melissa Taylor, got married in Mountain Village, Colorado, U.S.A on their skiing holiday with family and friends.
Petersen and Taylor surprised their friends on the trip with their wedding on the spot.
"We have talked about getting married for a long time but horse life and schedules always get in the way," Taylor told Eurodressage. "We had this trip planned with our
friends and I did some research and we surprised our guests."
The 48-year old Lars Petersen moved to the U.S.A. in 2002. He was originally based at Irwin Le Pow's yard in Virginia but quickly relocated to Florida. Melissa Taylor got acquainted with Lars that same year, when she started training with the Olympian.
One year later the two began a business partnership at Legacy Farm and have been running a sales and training facility in Wellington, FL, ever since.
Petersen has been in the U.S.A for more than 10 years and has acknowledge that he will apply for U.S. citizenship in December 2014. Him being married to Taylor can speed up this process.
