Times are difficult in Germany for hosting a successful international dressage competition. After the 2014 CDI Bremen Indoor was cancelled for February, today it was announced that the renowned outdoor CDI Lingen in August will not take place in 2014.
The CDI Lingen was a 4* dressage event and the past few years it was highly attended by top dressage riders from Germany, Great Britain, Spain and the U.S.A.
A lack of sponsorship is the reason for the annulment of the 2014 CDI Lingen. Heinrich Kampmann, show organizer, explained the situation:
"The budget for the international dressage show is mostly made up by sponsorship money from regional companies and institutions. The withdrawal of several sponsors already meant that in 2013 we couldn't completely break even. A solid financing of the show could no longer be guaranteed. For sponsors the waning interest of renowned TV-stations led to their decreasing engagement for the show."
The CDI Lingen was a fixture on the FEI calendar since 2006.
